Understanding the dynamics of civil society- MNC relationship and development of locally viable and applicable methodologies for building capacity in civil society- Shell Oil/Philips Electrical Operation in Karachi City –A Case Study

The project has three clearly specified objectives:

  • To evaluate the capacity of civil society groups of understanding the policies and functions of MNC’s, the impact of their operations on local environments and livelihoods, poverty reduction and the role civil society can play in ensuring corporate social responsibility of MNC’s
  • To understand the existing dynamics of civil society – MNC interaction (Shell Oil/Philips as case studies) and its impact on the corporate responsibility role of MNC’s
  • To identify locally viable and applicable tools and systems for capacity building in civil society groups, establish their linkages with internationally used mechanisms for capacity building, transfer skills and measure the effectiveness of the newly developed systems
